With gorgeous and challenging courses, incredibly well-supported aid stations and a wonderfully authentic post-race celebration, 'The Burn' is a Pacific NW classic event.  The 50K race is on Saturday, April 28, 2018 and the 20 mile race will be on Sunday, April 29, 2018. Both races start and finish at Reehers Camp (see driving directions below) in the Tillamook State Forest, a 40-45 minute drive from Portland or the Oregon Coast.

Each race is capped at 175 participants each, lending to the social-but-not-too-big race vibe the Burn is also known for. We predict an even quicker sellout this year given last year's feedback. Last year, race registration opened in late October 2016 and sold out in January 2017. A wait list will be opened if needed.


The mountainous, temperate Tillamook Rainforest in Northwestern Oregon is steeped in history, most notably, the legendary “Tillamook Burn” forest fires that consumed 355,000 acres of old growth forest from 1933-1951. One of the largest tree replanting campaigns in human history led to the formation of the Tillamook State Forest in 1974. Today, a lush second-growth forest thrives here, offering dozens of miles of exceptional single-track trails for us to enjoy, showcasing hundreds of massive, emblematic “grey ghost” snags and charred stumps-- enduring relics of the vast old growth rainforest that reigned here prior to the Tillamook Burn. 


A portion of race proceeds will be donated to the non-profit Tillamook Forest Heritage Trust, which provides direct support for recreational projects and outdoor educational programs within the Tillamook Forest.

Super soft 'Made in USA' 50/50 t-shirts and technical trucker hats custom made by Territory Run Co are available during registration (must register by 11:59 pm on 4/1 to be guaranteed a shirt). Race shirts and hats are not included in the race entry fee and are both available for $25 each. Shirts and hats must be picked up at race check-in or packet pick-up, no exceptions. All unclaimed shirts will be sold on race weekend. A limited number of shirts and hats will be available for sale on race day.


The closest accomodations are in Hillsboro, Forest Grove and Tillamook, all within 30-45 minutes from the Start/Finish at Reehers Camp. The closest available camping is at Stub Stewart State Park. Camping is available at Reehers Camp for race officials only. 



All races start and finish at REEHERS CAMP in the Tillamook Forest. Allow 45 minutes (~40 miles) from downtown Portland. 

Directions to Reehers Camp (Start/Finish) from the Portland area:

  1. Drive Highway 26 west toward the coast to Timber Road (just past milepost 38).
  2. Turn left (south) onto Timber Road, follow for 3 miles into the community of Timber.
  3. Turn right (west) onto Cochran Road.
  4. Reehers Camp is 2.2 miles down Cochran Road.


Parking is limited at the Start/Finish, so please carpool if possible. Only one vehicle is allowed per race participant.  Parking is available in the Reehers Camp Day-Use parking area. Overflow parking will be along the north side of Cochran Road.  Signs will be posted and volunteers will help direct you.  Parking within the campground itself is for race officials ONLY. Thank you in advance for carpooling when possible. 


Check-in and day of race bib pick-up takes place at the Start/Finish area (Reehers Camp Day-Use Shelter) from 7:00 am – 7:45 am each morning. All runners must check in the morning of the race!  There will be a packet pick-up held on the weekend before the race, details TBA. 


Crew access is available for the 50K only, at Storey Burn Trailhead if space is available. No crew access is available for the 20 miler outside Reehers Camp (Start/Finish). 

Access is for 50K crew only (not spectators). Carpooling is strongly encouraged as parking space is very limited. Parking is allowed only in the trailhead parking area-- No roadside parking is allowed anywhere in the area under any circumstances. The County Sheriff and/or race officials will make you move immediately if you park on the road shoulder on Storey Burn Road or the trailhead entry road. Failure to follow this requirement jeopardizes the event permit, disqualifies your runner and you will incur towing fees and/or fines from the Sheriff.

  • Written directions:
    1. From Reehers Camp, drive east on Cochran Road back to Timber.
    2. Turn right onto Timber Road, follow for 6.6 miles to Hwy 6 (Wilson River Hwy).
    3. urn right onto Hwy 6 and follow for 5.9 miles to milepost 33.
    4. Pull into the large gravel lot on the right at milepost 33 and continue straight onto Storey Burn Road.
    5. Follow Storey Burn Road for 1.8 miles to the trailhead entry on the left.  

Post-Race Festivities

Join runners, volunteers and family members for some great post-race food, beverages, live music and a festive campfire at the finish area while you cheer on the finishers! Local bluegrass band, Lost Creek, will be playing some great tunes both days. Stay and enjoy the fun! 

All finishers receive a custom award, and random drawing prizes will be given away to finishers. The top 3 male and female finishers will receive some awesome awards from some of our sponsors!


The Tillamook Burn 50K remains a qualifier for every race of the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®. Finishers of the 50K finishers earn 3 points. 


There are no refunds or transfers to other runners, absolutely no exceptions. Runners who must cancel their registration more than 30 days prior to the race can opt for a 50% credit toward a future Daybreak race within one year. If you must cancel your registration, you must do so via your Ultrasignup account in order to get the race credit. If your cancellation is 30 days or less from your race day, there is no credit, no refund, or transfer -- no exceptions.  Rest assured, your fee will be supporting an amazing non-profit beneficiary. Thank you for your attention to this. Race shirts, hats, etc., must be picked up at race day check-in (or packet pick-up event when applicable). Volunteers will have all runner's registration information and will distribute pre-ordered shirts. Remaining shirts and other items not picked up by the time the race starts will be re-sold when our merchandise table opens. No refunds will be issued for any reason regarding pre-ordered race shirts, hats and other add-ons. These items will also not be shipped.

Race Cancellation

In the event that Daybreak Racing is forced to cancel the race for any reason (such as severe weather, wildfire, catatrophic storm damage, etc.) and the event cannot be feasibly rescheduled, we will give all registered runners the option of receiving a 50% refund or a 50% credit, which can be applied toward any Daybreak Racing event with no expiration.
